Heading to Reykjavik is something we had been planning to do for many years and having finally decided to make the 3 hour trip from the UK we booked ourselves a stay at the beautifully modern Skuggi Hotel.
Booking.comDouble Bedroom
The double bedroom that we stayed in was perfect for our stay. It was modern, warm, clean, spacious and comfy with plenty of room to store our suitcases and all the usual amenities supplied including tea and coffee.
The only thing we did find strange was that the room had no safe however when looking at the nearly non-existent crime rates in Reykjavik perhaps this non-existent room facility is an incredibly positive reflection of the city.
The bathroom much like the bedroom offered a fantastic high pressure shower and a continuation of the modern look and feel that we had expected from the hotel.
Breakfast Buffet
We opted for half board during our stay allowing us not to worry about grabbing food on the go. This actually turned out to be one of the best decisions we made as all of the excursions started so early in the morning if we hadn’t included breakfast in our stay we would have gone pretty hungry most mornings!
So what does the breakfast selection at Skuggi look like? Well, the hotel offers a pretty good selection of food covering everything from continental options of fruit, cereals, yogurt and granola to English breakfast options with sausages, eggs and beans available. This is of course all accompanied by a selection of fruit juices, teas and coffees.
There is no food cooked to order so you do need to just take what’s available – sorry to disappoint all of you who are super fussy about your eggs!
The Bar
During our stay we didn’t find the opportunity to sit in the bar and have a drink. I know right, who does that!? There was just so much going on outside of the hotel that we didn’t have much time to enjoy a lot of the facilities unfortunately! Or is that fortunately!? I’m going with the latter.
Despite not making it to the bar, we saw plenty of people who did and surrounded by these beautiful surroundings and finishing touches why would you not want to kill a few hours sat here enjoying your favourite drink. There was always a buzz in the bar and plenty of people sitting having a drink when leaving and returning from the hotel so if you are in a group or a solo traveller you’ll be likely to meet some great people here.
Skuggi Hotel review
Skuggi was somewhere that we were immediately drawn to for a number of reasons. The location of the hotel was absolutely perfect. It’s fairly central in Reykjavik so you can easily walk to all of the main restaurants and shops within a matter of minutes. Head in the other direction and you are immediately at the Sun Voyager Viking Boat and the coastline offering incredible mountainous views.
Skuggi isn’t the cheapest hotel in Reykjavik however in our opinion it’s one of the best. The interior design throughout the hotel is great and certainly something to make you feel like you’ve booked somewhere special for your stay. Not only that but the receptionists always welcome you back to the hotel, say goodbye when you leave and make you feel welcome throughout your entire stay.
