Galicia

The Spanish region of Galicia is located on the most northwestern edge of Spain with Asturias to the east, Castile and Leon to the southeast and Portugal to the south. Galicia consists of 4 provinces, A Coruña, Lugo, Ourense and Pontevedra. The regional capital of Galicia is Santiago de Compostela which boasts a cathedral.

Galicia is a coastal region so as you would expect there are numerous coastal walks, fishing villages and beaches to visit. Throughout the majority of the region Galicia is a very hilly environment with mountain ranges to the east and south which rise up to around 2,000m / 6,600 ft.

Pontevedra is a city in northwest Spain which is well known for the Gothic Santa Maria la Mayor Basilica. Comprising on an old town, Pontevedra has many areas to explore including a 14th century convent, a Galician art museum and a 12th century monastery.

Santiago De Compostela

As the capital city of Galicia, Santiago de Compostela is the most popular destination within the region. It is the final stop on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and is also stated to be the burial location of the apostle, St. James.
