follow url The White House, the Christmas Tree, the Capital Building and the Washington Monument certainly all stand out however something that the city has an abundance of are Washington’s memorials. Ranging from war memorials to those of former presidents the city has a huge number to explore with one of our favourites being the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.
go site The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is located on the Tidal Basin and much like the Lincoln Memorial is instantly recognisable. Completed in 1943 the Memorial was dedicated by President Roosevelt on the 200th anniversary of Jefferson’s birthday.
Jefferson was the main primary author of the Declaration of Independence and the first Secretary of State so has great significance within the history of the United States of America.
If you are heading to Washington D.C. this year visiting the Thomas Jefferson Memorial should be on your list. Not only does it commemorate a significant part of America’s history but a walk here can easily be combined with several other memorials nearby including the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Jnr Memorial and the Korean War Memorial to name a few.
Aside from seeing the memorial itself, as it is located on the tidal basin you should find one of the benches around it or indeed the steps out the front and enjoy the views back across Washington D.C. or the building itself.
