Canadian Tour 2017: Day 13 – Vancouver

So today was the 13th and penultimate day on our 2 week tour of Canada. Having seen most of the major neighbourhoods around Vancouver including Gastown, Yaletown, Chinatown and Downtown we decided to go a little further afield today by crossing the Lions Gate Bridge into North Vancouver.

Having woken up quite late today we headed for brunch at Chambar in Downtown. Rather optimistically we had actually tried to get into Jam Cafe YVR which is the #1 rated place in the city on Trip Advisor but with about 30 people queuing out of the door we figured it just wasn’t worth the wait and so headed. To Chambar, 2 doors up. The food here was superb where we had waffles, paella and what was a bit like a sausage kebab with potatoes!

Fuelled for the day we made our way down to the waterfront and Canada Place.

We located the tourist info stand and bought some tickets to head up Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver. These set us back a little at over $100 but for a day or we felt it was worth it.

From Canada Place there was then a free shuttle bus that took us through Stanley Park and up Grouse Mountain passing the Capilano Suspension Bridge and infamous Ground Grind (we weren’t feeling fit enough to attempt that!).

Once at the drop off point our tickets then gave us access to the gondola up to the top of the mountain which was around a 10 minute ride.

We then explored the mountain area and saw the 2 bears that they have enclosed up there along with the lumberjack show which was hilarious. Having spent so many days hiking without seeing any bears and hoping to see them whilst driving around it was quite saddening to finally see some in captivity.

A short ride further up the chair lift took us to the highest point where the views were incredible.

With Grouse Mountain ticked off our list we jumped on the free shuttle back down to Canada Place where we went to see the 2010 Winter Olympic Cauldron which is a fantastic work of art.

It’s sad to think that tomorrow is our last full day in Canada before flying back to the UK but we still have a lot to fit into our final day in Vancouver tomorrow!
