Seeing How The Other Half Lived At Chatsworth House & Gardens

The UK is teaming with history and culture and as a British citizen it’s often very easy to forget the beauty that exists right on your doorstep. The temptation to travel the world and see other overseas towns and cities is strong however the UK has a huge number of things to offer tourists, especially outside of London including the many national parks and National Trust houses.

In recent years we have decided to explore the UK a little more with one of our more recent adventures being a visit to the beautiful Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, England.

Where is Chatsworth House?

Chatsworth House is located near Bakewell in Derbyshire, England and is one of the many stately homes scattered across the UK.

The house has been home to the Cavendish family since 1549 and is repeatedly stated to be the UK’s favourite stately home.

The house requires constant upkeep and has been maintained incredibly well to ensure that the interior fittings and period features are sympathetic to its rich history. Wandering through the house you are able to explore drawing rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, the library and several bedrooms.

The house is enormous of course so you need to keep your eyes peeled for the smaller details in each room. There are silk and embroidered walls, beautifully tiled floors and fireplaces, historic paintings, scenic views from every window and incredible detailing in the artex ceilings.

Exploring Chatsworth House takes a couple of hours but try and make sure you visit on a good weather day as the house is only half of your experience.

Chatsworth House sits on a huge expanse of land with the gardens being beautifully maintained. If you are planning to visit, heading here on a warm sunny summer’s day will add a huge amount to your overall experience as the gardens alone can take well over an hour to explore. There are also several hikes that you can undertake which start from the house if you’re feeling a little fitter!

The gardens offer everything you would expect from a property like this with beautiful tree lined walks, walled gardens, a maze, flower gardens and a cascading waterfall running down the hill to the house.
