Experiencing The Beautiful Trevi Fountain In Rome

The Trevi Fountain in Rome is one of the world’s best known and most beautifully constructed fountains. There certainly aren’t many others that you could so readily talk about if asked to name one… other than maybe those dancing ones at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas!?

One of the many things that makes the Trevi Fountain so special is its sheer size. At 26m (86ft) tall and 49m (161 ft) wide it really is a very large construction – the largest Baroque fountain in the world in fact!

Like the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain was constructed as part of a competition which around those Baroque times was a popular and regular occurrence in the city. It was completed in 1762 and has remained open to the public ever since with regular maintenance and cleaning.

If you heading here something to prepare yourself for is how busy it is! And I mean REALLY busy to point where you can barely move. The fountain is located in a small square and is a bit of a bottle neck so with the number of people descending on the location it’s not surprising that it gets so bad here. You’ll need fight your way to the front to throw your coin in and guarantee your return to the city along with taking a few photos.

The above photo was taken at around 6pm at the end of February so you can only imagine what it would be like here in the height of summer. We strongly advise against heading here during the middle of the day as it will likely spoil your experience.

Despite the huge swathes of tourists the Trevi Fountain really is somewhere that you cannot afford to miss out on seeing in Rome. As a tourist location of world class status make sure you add this spot to your Rome city break itinerary, you won’t be disappointed!
