Enjoying A Luxury Stay At The Viceroy In New York City

Heading to New York always brings about a sense of adventure. Like London the city is enormous so there’s always something new to see and somewhere new to visit. Getting the location of your accommodation right for your visit is therefore key.

On my last visit to New York I wanted to be within walking distance of Central Park and Times Square; I also wanted little luxury which led to me booking the Viceroy hotel in Manhatten’s Midtown on 57th Street, just a stone’s throw from both.

First impressions

With everything that’s going on in New York and the high rise buildings it’s easy to miss the Viceroy, particularly due to its black painted facade. Once located however the hotel oozes a premium feel. It felt like it was going to be somewhere special.

On arrival my wife and I were warmly greeted by the reception staff, checked in and directed to our room.

Standard double room

With it being New York we weren’t expecting to have a lot of space in our hotel room (space is definitely hard to come by in this city), so things were snug. However despite its compact size the room offered plenty of space for all of our things and was certainly more than comfortable. It felt premium, was clean, it smelt fresh and the bed was excellent – having just flown in from Las Vegas it got used straight away!

The staff at the Viceroy had also received a note that we were on our Honeymoon and so when we arrived there was a chilled bottle of sparkling wine waiting for us – this was a really nice personal touch.

The Roof

One of the special things about the Viceroy is that it has a rooftop bar overlooking Central Park, aptly named The Roof. It is mostly an indoor bar with a balcony that you can step out to and on a clear evening must offer some incredible views across the city.

Unfortunately however when I was in New York it was pouring with rain relentlessly and so the best view I got was staring through the rain clouds and mist, looking back at the warm people sat at the bar inside! Needless to say, very little time was spent outside so I enjoyed a fantastic cocktail from the inside comfort of a sofa.. cue low quality low lighting photos!

Kingside restaurant

Bolted on the side of the Viceroy is the Kingside restaurant. Offering “new American classics” (seriously, what?) the restaurant has a diner feel about it and luckily for me was open late so I could grab some food after a late flight into NYC.

Overall impression

Overall I thought the Viceroy was excellent. It was clean, quiet and friendly and due to its location offered a superb spot for exploring everything that New York has to offer. Positioned as a luxury hotel in the city I would certainly agree that it lives up to its reputation. The hotel looks premium and you are treated like a valued guest by all of the staff.

I wouldn’t hesitate to revisit the Viceroy which although a bit more pricey than other hotels certainly offers a fantastic, premium experience. Next time I’m back in New York I won’t be looking to stay anywhere else! 10/10.
