Our 9th day in Canada has been a pretty exhausting one despite being the first non-hiking day since we arrived. Today marked the last morning in Jasper and Jasper National Park as we embarked on our 800km / 500 mile drive to Vancouver, across the border from Alberta into British Columbia.
Checking out of the Fairmont Jasper Park at 11 it was the first of our 3 mornings in Jasper where it wasn’t raining or smokey and so we could actually see the mountains! Who knew Jasper was so beautiful as we hadn’t seen the landscapes properly at all since we arrived.
Driving from Jasper to Kamloops
With a few non-rainy photos taken we set off for Vancouver via Kamloops where we would be spending one night.
Mount Robson Provincial Park
After around an hour of driving we made a stop at Mount Robson Provincial Park to take a look at Mount Robson. At nearly 13,000 feet / 4,000 m, it’s an impressive mountain!
If you are doing this drive I would definitely recommend making a stop here as there’s a tourist information centre, a cafe and of course the spectacular mountain views.
Changing scenery
The further to Kamloops we got the more agricultural the landscape became, changing from mountain ranges to large hills. this also meant an abundance of cows and sheep in the fields driving in which made a nice change to bear and elk warning signs everywhere!
On the route I also thought I’d take a snap of our trusty mule for the week in her intended environment…
Eventually after just under 6 hours of driving we made it to the Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott in Kamloops.
With the clocks going back an hour as we crossed the border from Alberta into British Columbia we’ve had a seriously long day. Not wanting to dress up and head out I jumped in the car for a lazy dinner and bought a Papa Johns back to the hotel room – ordering food whilst hungry was a terrible idea however as I bought far too much!
I’m really disappointed that it rained the entire time we were in Jasper as we didn’t get to fully appreciate the landscapes. That said it now gives us a good reason to go back in the future.
6 hours of driving today nearly broke me, I’m glad it’s over! Tomorrow is the final leg from Kamloops to Vancouver where we’ll then spend 5 nights. Bring on the next 4 hour drive in the morning…
