Planning For My 1st Anniversary In Canada

1 year ago I married the love of my life and who knows how the heck it happened but here I am 1 year later wondering where the last 12 months went! It’s amazing how time passes us by in the blink of an eye but with the year nearly over a new travel opportunity has arisen in the shape of the 1st anniversary.

For months I’ve been looking forward to heading out to the west of Canada where I’ll be road tripping my way from Calgary to Vancouver stopping off along the way at Banff, Lake LouiseJasper and Kamloops. The route is a Canadian classic, highly recommended by countless people all over the internet so it really is something that I’ve been counting down the days to!

The great outdoors

After experiencing Yosemite and Death Valley National Park during my honeymoon last year we really got a taste for the great outdoors and breathtaking scenery. Canada is very similar but with where we’re heading to being located on the Rocky Mountains it offers something far more impressive with mountains, wildlife, glaciers and mirror lakes.

Canadian wildlife

There’s a lot to do in Canada and one of the main highlights is the abundance of wildlife. From elk to brown and grizzly bears, a lot of the wildlife is big. Really big. I’m not going to lie, it’s a bit scary – who wants to come face to face with a 9 foot tall bear!? My head just starts conjuring up images of Leonardo di Caprio from The Revenant!

Fear aside, the idea of seeing elk and bears in the wild in their natural environment is certainly something to look forward to, so long as they aren’t too close – I’ll be sure to have some bear spray within reach.

Canadian lakes

With glaciers and mountains come the inevitable mirror lakes. Lakes that are so still and crystal clear they don’t look real. On my Canadian tour I’ll be visiting a number of Canadian lakes including Moraine lake and Lake Louise which are both incredibly impressive. Crystal clear waters and incredible scenery this is something that I really cannot wait to experience.

Vancouver

The final stop on the road trip is 5 nights in Vancouver. With memories of San Francisco fresh in the mind from my honeymoon, Vancouver I’ve been led to believe is very similar and one of the best cities in the world. Nearly every person that I have spoken to who has been there has said that they would return in an instant given the opportunity so it’s certainly been elevated to a high level.

During my stay I plan to visit the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Pier 39 allow myself to be absorbed by what the city has to offer.

1st year anniversary in Canada

During my visit to Canada in a few weeks time I plan to get the most of it that I can by really throwing myself at everything that the country has to offer. The last time I went to Canada was 15 years ago where I headed to Niagara Falls and went skiing in Mont St Anne. Even back then I told everyone that the Canadians were the friendliest people I’d met and so I have no doubt that on this occasion things will be no different.

Can you provide any advice and tips as to where I should go and what to see during my visit? Leave them in the comments below!
