5 Places I Want To Visit In The Next 5 Years

Working a full time job whilst having the desire to travel the world means that there is a limitation of how much of the world you can see each year based on the number of days your employer allows. Not only that but most employers aren’t going to allow you to simply take 2 months off work to go travelling and come back as if you had never left. This means for me I have to maintain a plan of what travelling I want to do each year and limit it to a couple of city breaks, a summer holiday and potentially a winter holiday depending on how the bank balance is looking.

Over the next 5 years however there are a number of places that I really want to head to – these are my top 5.

1. Thailand

Thailand really is the stuff that dreams are made of. With beautifully clear waters, stunning natural formations and being a cheap destination to explore once you are there, for me it’s at the top of my list.

Thailand offers everything from bustling cities like Bangkok to idylic castaway islands like Ko Samui and amongst all of this is plenty of culture, history and temples to keep you occupied.

2. New Zealand

Next up is New Zealand, a country that I have wanted to visit for as long as I can remember. In recent years, as I’ve got older, I have moved away from simple beach resort holidays due to a greater appreciation for the natural landscapes that the world has to offer. This has led me to explore some incredible places such as Yosemite National Park in Californa, USA and Banff National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

New Zealand looks to offer a very similar experience with a lot of lakes, mountainous regions and stunning landscapes to enjoy. For me this will be a destination where I jump in a campervan and explore the country whilst on the move, there’s simply too much here to sit still in one pleace.

Not only that but they do of course have Hobbiton in New Zealand and let’s face it, there aren’t many of us who didn’t enjoy The Lord of the Rings and wouldn’t want to make a quick stop here to take a look!

3. Australia

Australia has been on my list of places to visit for far too long however I’ve still never quite managed to find the time to head out there. Being so far from the UK it’s not exactly a cheap destination to visit and isn’t really a quick flight. That said I’m making it one of my goals to get out there in the next 5 years and see the major cities and some of the natural landscapes.

Of course you can’t head to Australia without seeing the famous Sydney Opera House and bridge so this will certainly be one of my stopping points.

Additionally I’d love to go and explore a bit of the outback and see Ayers rock.

4. Mexico

Mexico has so much to offer that it has remained a top traveller destination for many years. With its white beaches, rich culture and idyllic climate it’s somewhere I would love to go and experience in the near future.

Cancun Beach, Mexico

Beyond Cancun’s beaches there is the Mayan history and in particular Chichen Itza. One of the many wonders of the world, this is somewhere I don’t just want to see in a photograph but actually see with my own eyes.

5. Iceland

Now this probably isn’t somewhere that would appear at the top of most travellers lists of destinations however for me I’ve always been fascinated with the vast climate difference of the Northern hemisphere and especially the Northern Lights. This alone is one of the reasons I would love to head to Iceland and in particular the capital, Reykjavik.

With its stunning natural beauty and incredible reputation Iceland needs very little justification to visit.
